What is a Pints for Prostates Event?
A Pints Event is a fun event that can save lives. Pints for Prostates is an awareness campaign developed by a prostate cancer survivor designed to reach men through the universal language of beer. The goal of holding a Pints for Prostates Event is to engage men in a fun and non-threatening way at a time and place where the message of regular PSA testing and prostate health screenings can be effectively communicated. Women are welcome to attend, too!
Why Hold a Pints for Prostates Event?
Men listen to their friends. That is why a Pints event can be an excellent way to get the word out about the importance of getting screened early for prostate cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, the 5-year survival rate for prostate cancer is 100% when it is detected early. What better way to save lives and have fun than to gather a group of friends and empower them to stay healthy!
About the Beer/Alcohol
Pints for Prostates uses beer as a tool to get the attention of men so that the message of prostate health can be delivered. Pints for Prostates does not encourage the consumption of alcohol. In fact, no fundraising as part of the campaign can advocate the purchase of alcohol and all events must offer alternative, non-alcoholic beverages for those attending.
Getting Started
There are a number of possible ways for a motivated individual or a local Us TOO Chapter to use the Pints for Prostates campaign to reach men about PSA testing, prostate health screenings and the availability of free information and support services provided by Us TOO International. For informal events suitable for a smaller group, just hold an event at your favorite brewpub or restaurant. For larger events, the best first step is to find a local partner in the brewing or restaurant trade and approach them about becoming involved.
A bar that has a great beer selection or a brewpub that makes and sells its own beer on-premise are two examples of places where people have hosted Pints for Prostates events. If your community has a local beer festival, you may want to approach organizers about donating booth space to the cause. Promoting the Event
Pints for Prostates has electronic copies of posters available that you can customize and print to promote the event. We also have press release templates that can be used with local media.
You may also want to contact local homebrewers clubs and beer enthusiast groups (a number of these can be found by searching on http://www.meetup.com/) about joining the effort. Usually these groups are interested in helping charitable causes and have regular meetings.
Finding the right location and retail partner is key to the success of the event. These business people are interested in community relations and see the Pints for Prostates event as a way of showing they care about their customers, while also gaining exposure to an entirely new group of potential patrons.
Raising Funds
Keep in mind that Pints for Prostates does not encourage the consumption of alcohol. For this reason, we do not hold promotions that generate donations on a per drink sale basis. Instead we look for programs that raise funds by:
- Generating donations through either the sale of a special glass (breweries may be willing to donate to this cause) or through a cover charge for the evening.
- Generating donations through the sale of Us TOO blue wristbands, blue ribbon lapel pins and other items. Obtain these items through the Us TOO home office.
- Generating donations through the raffle of items. Often retail partners can obtain great prizes from local beer distributors or they are willing to offer gift cards.
- Those people who make a donation or buy a raffle ticket earn a Pints for Prostates decal/sticker that they can wear for the duration of the event. The sticker serves as recognition of their contribution, and helps promote the cause to other brewpub patrons present but not yet participating.

How do I host a Pints Event?
Hosting a Pints for Prostates event is flexible. You pick the date, time, location, and who you would like to invite. Sign up below to let us know when your event is and we will send you awareness materials.
