Free educational materials are distributed to new patients, survivors, family members and support groups, with new materials being created throughout the year. See list of free publications here.
Our toll-free HelpLine provides a link for patients and concerned others to access resources regarding diagnosis, treatment options and support systems. Upon request, we can provide you with phone support from a prostate cancer survivor. Call 1-800-80-UsTOO (1-800-808-7866) or 630-795-1002, M-F 9am-5pm Central Time.
Resource materials, training and support are provided to 12 Chicago-area support group chapters and their leaders by a full-time staff person. See list of area support groups here. A community-based, train-the-trainer prostate cancer outreach and awareness program for African Americans, Spanish-speaking and other underserved populations is available for the Chicagoland area. Funded by a 5-year cooperative agreement grant from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. More about the program here.
A new, patient education symposium and volunteer training program called Us TOO University has been established. The patient education program component provides information, resources and product demonstrations for newly diagnosed and advanced diseased men and their families seeking decision-making help and support, available clinical trials, advocacy activities and more. The volunteer training workshop provides support group leaders with training in group leadership and chapter management skills. - Wellness Place, A Cancer Resource Center - |
Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among American males today. Wellness Place has specialized prostate cancer resources, helping those affected come to terms with a diagnosis, manage symptoms, and improve their quality of life.
Wellness Place is a homelike resource center dedicated to helping those affected by cancer. Located in Palatine, Illinois Wellness Place serves those living with cancer by offering individual, couple and family counseling to cope with emotional and physical responses, assisting participants as they sort through treatment options and side effects, providing networking and support groups, and delivering educational programs. These resources are a valuable complement to conventional medical treatment, dramatically enhancing participants’ quality of life.
Through generous donations and events such as the Greater Chicago Prostate Cancer Run, Walk ‘n Roll, these services and programs are offered at no cost to participants. |

New for 2008, the Wellness Place, Prostate Cancer Resource Center offers programs specifically designed for people living with prostate cancer. For those seeking more information, the center provides specialized educational programs and resources, diagnostic and treatment information, and internet access for individual research. The center also offers individual, couple and family counseling services, support and networking opportunities as well as fitness and strengthening programs. |

Wellness Place networking groups allow participants the opportunity to share their experiences with people in similar circumstances. Within a confidential environment, cancer survivors and their family, friends and caregivers can discuss issues related to their cancer experience and share valuable information and coping strategies. |

The Men with Cancer networking group has met for many years at Wellness Place and is described as a “poker club without the poker” for men experiencing cancer. The group is led by Charlie Stephens, a two time, 18-year cancer survivor, who encourages sharing of concerns, information, and support.
