Dear
Friends and Supporters of Us TOO,

I am asking for your support of a researcher I know personally. Elizabeth Afriyie is a professor of Biological Sciences and Behavioral Sciences at East-West University in Chicago, Illinois, and teaches courses in biology and psychology (see her bio here). She is also a doctoral student at Nova Southeastern University where she is engaged in dissertation research for the purpose of satisfying a requirement for a Doctor of High Education degree with concentration on Healthcare Education and Gerontology. The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between basic knowledge of prostate cancer and high incidence and mortality rates among African American men.

As part of her research study, Liz is inviting men of different ethnicities in the Midwest to participate in a basic knowledge of prostate cancer research survey and is working with Us TOO International and our network of support group chapters to help find prospective participants.

If you are interested in participating, the questionnaire can be found here.

The questionnaire opens in a PDF document. You must have a PDF reader installed on your computer to view and work with the document. Get Adobe Reader here if you don’t already have one installed: http://get.adobe.com/reader/.

It will take about 40 minutes to complete the survey. Participant answers will be anonymous. The data from this questionnaire will be used to help develop programs that can aim to increase African American’s knowledge about prostate cancer and change misperceptions about the disease. This data will be used to help healthcare educators/professionals increase prostate cancer awareness in the African American community, and facilitate education through prostate cancer education, early detection and intervention.

Please forward this message along to your support group members, family, friends, pastors of churches and others in your town’s African American community.

Please submit surveys by Friday, December 30, 2011. Thank you in advance for your consideration and participation in support of this important research.

Sincerely,

Thomas Kirk
