Dear Friend,

2013 Walkers“Compared to managing life with prostate cancer, a little rain is nothing!” That declaration from one of the many prostate cancer survivors was the overriding sentiment of the crowd of hundreds sporting rain gear and positive attitudes that persevered over sporadic rain showers and an occasional downpour on September 15 at the 2013 SEA Blue Prostate Cancer Walk/Run in Chicago’s Lincoln Park. Our sincere thanks to all of the volunteers and staff who pulled together to make the event a success, along with the walkers and runners who participated.

FUNDRAISING OPEN UNTIL OCT. 31: We set an aggressive goal this year for participant registrations, donations and fundraising to track with the increase in corporate sponsorship for the event. Although registrations on the day of the event were down sharply due to the weather, we are hoping to close the gap in our fundraising goal of $200,000. Please CLICK HERE to donate! Funds will be accepted until October 31.

2013 Race StartRACE RESULTS:  Check out the RACE RESULTS. First Place Survivor was Kevin Coster from Oak Forest, IL, with a time of 25:38.7. Congratulations, Kevin!

TEAM RECOGNITION:  Team recognition awards went to Team TC for Largest Team; Team Trinco for Best Team Spirit; and Team Marching for Moe (pictured below) for Best Show of Blue. Congratulations to all!

SPECIAL GUESTS:  A special shout out of thanks goes to our event sponsors, emcee and prostate cancer survivor Steve Sanders, Mrs. International 2013 and SEA Blue walker Amy Gregario, and Chicago Lincoln Park Alderman of the 43rd Ward Michele Smith, who presented a resolution at the event proclaiming September as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in Chicago.

PSA TESTS:  More than 90 men took advantage of free PSA testing at the mobile facility on-site sponsored by UroPartners. An added feature this year that was also very well received was the NorthShore University Health Systems Education Tent, which hosted free presentations from Gerald Chodak, MD; Dan Shevrin, MD; Jeff Albaugh, PhD; and APRN Brian Helfand, MD. These nationally recognized experts presented information on understanding prostate cancer treatment options, active surveillance, sex and intimacy after prostate cancer, and the latest developments in treatment for advanced prostate cancer.

2013 Race Team HairThis is the largest fundraiser to support Us TOO International and Wellness Place, two 501(c)3 non-profit organizations committed to providing prostate cancer survivors and their families with vital services free of charge. Once again, thank you to all who have supported the 2013 SEA Blue Walk/Run; and thank you in advance to those who will be adding to the contributions!

Warm regards,
Thomas Kirk
