I am once again very pleased to be able to send along this latest edition of the HotSheet—the March 2013 edition. It is amazing to me how fast time seems to be going so far this year. My father must have been right when he used to tell me that as you get older, time seems to go faster!
I am also pleased to tell you we have been able to complete another edition of the Chapter News! e-newsletter as well, our first of 2013. A special thank you goes out to our Chapter Services Manager and newsletter editor Terri Likowski for her persistence.
I want to point out on page 2, the article highlighting a clinical trial on designer T-cells as well as a fine article on the hot topic of PSA testing by our friend and prostate cancer activist Greg Pynn found on page 12. It also shows some of the events from 2012, highlights our recent January 2013 event to celebrate last September’s SEA Blue Prostate Cancer Walk & Run, lists new affiliated groups, describes a great retreat which was conducted by the Prostate Cancer Foundation and informs you about our Us TOO University Town Hall meeting plans.
As for our March HotSheet, I want to welcome a new supporter, Bavarian Nordic and thank you and the other companies who continue to support its publication and distribution. I also want to thank the three physicians who continue to contribute to the HotSheet and wish Dr. Gerry Chodak support as he recovers from his recent knee injury which kept him from providing his comments this month. He is interested in making comments soon.
I also want to emphasize recent new changes to our collaborative project on advanced disease with Janssen, the “My Prostate Cancer Roadmap”. Yesterday, Shirley Grey and I were with prostate cancer survivor and WGN TV anchor as we discussed Mind over Manhood: the Misconceptions of Prostate Cancer survey results and the new resources found on the website. You can watch the interview here.
Shirley lost her husband Herbie in 2008 to metastatic prostate cancer and has authored a great summary of her journey “10 Things I Learned for Loving in Sickness and Health.”
I hope you enjoy the HotSheet and the Chapter News! and please stay active (as Dr. Moyad reminds us) and hopeful… together we can accomplish a great deal in our battle with this cruel disease.
