I hope that you are well and off to a strong start to the summer season! Enclosed is the July 2014 issue of the HotSheet.
I kicked off this month while attending the ASCO (American Society for Clinical Oncology) annual conference in Chicago. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity once again to meet with many of our pharmaceutical and healthcare industry partners and discuss collaborating on upcoming initiatives for prostate cancer education, support and advocacy.
During the weekend of June 6th we hosted the Us TOO board of directors’ second quarterly meeting of 2014. The agenda included plans for the 25th Anniversary of Us TOO in 2015, and much of the meeting focused on the importance of fundraising to help support the work of Us TOO developing and distributing educational content and resources free of charge to the prostate cancer community.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Us TOO “Blue Skies” summer campaign!
Please show your support if you’ve not yet donated.
Also, registrations and donations are being accepted for the
10th Anniversary of the SEA Blue Prostate Cancer Walk & Run to be held on September 14th.
Register for the SEA Blue event by June 30th and save $10 with
the discount code: JUNE.
We extend our condolences to Us TOO Board Member Keith Hoffman and his family on the passing of Keith’s father, Edward Hoffman, on June 17th. In lieu of flowers the family is supporting a donation in the name of Edward Hoffman to Us TOO through the mail or online.
If you’re undergoing radiation treatment for your prostate cancer, you may be eligible for $1,000 in financial assistance through the Patient Advocate Foundation. Each month a limited number of awards are distributed so it’s best to apply on the first day of the month. Click here for the details.
You’re invited to the Chicago Nuclear Medicine and Imaging Conference on Saturday, July 26th, at the Hughes Auditorium in the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Building. This FREE event features physician presentations throughout the day. Attend any number of sessions scheduled from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.
We recently received a limited quantity of DOD Prostate Cancer Research Program printed newsletters and brochures. Let us know if you’d like us to send some to you. Also, there’s still time to apply to become a Department of Defense Consumer Reviewer. I’m happy to assist you in the application process, which requires a letter of support from an advocacy organization such as Us TOO.
An FDA advisory committee panel meeting will be held on July 30th in Gaithersburg, MD, to review and vote on the EDAP submission for Ablatherm HIFU for the treatment of localized prostate cancer.
Finally, you may be interested in listening to a recording of a CureTalk radio program about prostate cancer clinical trials with Dr. Ian Thompson, which can be found at www.curepanel.carefeed.net. Panelists included Mike Scott, Jan Manarite and Paul Carpenter.
My best to you,
President & CEO
